Trench Prepares Grandparents for The Lost World!
We have just returned from an exciting adventure to see the world’s ‘tallest’ waterfall, Angel
Falls, in Venezuela. The Falls are located in the Southeast of Venezuela, at the northern-most
reaches of the massive Amazonian rainforest,
and the only way to see them is to travel to a
very, very remote location.

2008 Hawaiian Ride for Youth raises over $600,000
WOW another fantastic effort by 40 riders, 12 Support Crew and Youth Focus.
This has been my sixth ride and the most successful on many fronts.
On Saturday 5 April forty very wet, remarkable and exhausted people cycled into Kings Square Fremantle to complete the final leg of the Youth Focus - Hawaiian Ride for Youth 2008.
This incredible team of men and women had cycled 700km’s when they arrived for the Official Finish and welcome by the City of Fremantle.
This charity bike ride is aimed at raising awareness and much-needed funds for Youth Focus. Last year the ride raised $501,000 and set a target of $600,000 for 2008. A cheque was presented to Youth Focus at the Official Finish Function for $594,000 but already, additional funds received by Youth Focus have pushed this amazing fundraising total to over $600,000!!! Youth Focus are confident that we will exceed $600,000, with donations open until 30 May 2008.
Training for six months prior to the ride, the ten teams of four cyclists not only gave-up time with their families to train 3 – 4 days a week, but then worked tirelessly to raise funds, before, during and continuing after the ride. A phenomenal effort from a phenomenal group of people who are passionate about supporting Youth Focus.
THANK YOU to the 10 team Captains for your support and guidance towards the riders during training and the ride itself and THANK YOU to our 12 Support Crew and Event Director for keeping us safe during the ride.
Youth Focus is a West Australian not for profit, non-government community based organisation working with young people 12 – 18 years of age who are showing early signs associated with suicide, depression and self-harm. Youth Focus is currently working with over 600 young people and 160 families and due to lack of funds in 2006/07 more than 250 young people were unable to access their services.
Money raised on the Hawaiian Ride for Youth 2008 will support the funding of Youth and Family counsellors, the Mentor Program and research into the Peer Support Programs enabling them to continue their vital work with young people and families who are needing support and assistance.
It would not be possible without the support and generosity of Western Australian business, media and the community, THANK YOU!
We all look forward to being involved again for RFY 2009.
